As part of our vision at Mariners we have three relationship priorities: Worshipping God (UP), Sharing Life & Faith Together (IN) and Making Jesus Known (OUT). So how does men’s ministry serve these priorities?

UP– “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20). If you’re a man, then you’re a son. Some men have known the loving relationship of an earthly father; for others that relationship may have been troubled or even absent. Through Jesus Christ we have access to a perfect, loving heavenly father who delights in us and wants to restore, bless and heal us. Mariners Men’s Ministry complements other ministry at Mariners; it’s purpose is to build men up and help them get to know our Heavenly Father in a deeper way.

IN – “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27 17). We live in world full of temptation and challenge against living a holy life. By committing to regular fellowship with men in the church we can encourage each other (1 Thessalonians 5:11).  Let’s make this fun! We hope to hold regular breakfast meetings (for larks), curry nights (for owls) and other activities e.g. Rugby at Kingsholm, where we can get to know each other and grow in faith.

OUT– There is so much that God is going to do through Mariners; and men need to stand up for Jesus in our church, in our community and in our world. “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me” (Matt 25: 35,36). Men can serve on courses such as Alpha, they may wish to support CFEO (Caring For Ex-Offenders – which typically needs men’s direct support) as well as many other avenues. In a society where there is a dearth of paternal values, we can come together and serve Jesus as role models for the Kingdom.

Here’s a thought: 3M is one of the world’s leading innovation companies. Would you like to be innovative and make ‘Mariners Men’s Ministry’ (3M) one of the world’s leading fellowship groups?
